Buying Guide
Key considerations when choosing solar eclipse glasses:
- Certification and safety: Look for ISO 12312-2 certification and CE marking, plus any official AAS endorsements. These confirm filters block harmful UV, IR, and high-intensity visible light.
- Fit and comfort: If you wear prescription glasses, consider glasses designed to fit over them or with comfortable nose bridges and soft frames for longer viewing sessions.
- Pack size and value: For families or groups, multi-pack options can reduce cost per pair and simplify distribution during events.
- Extras and accessories: Some brands include smartphone photo lenses or guides, which can enhance the viewing experience or aid in documenting the event.
- Event scope: For total solar eclipses, ensure the glasses offer safe viewing through the entire event, including the partial phases and totality, without needing to switch eyewear.
- Usage cautions: Do not look through cameras, telescopes, or binoculars with eclipse glasses, and supervise children during viewing to ensure proper use.
When selecting, weigh the balance between safety certifications, user comfort, and any additional features that add value for your viewing scenario—whether a solo eclipse or a family viewing day. Always verify the latest certifications and product safety updates from the manufacturer before use, as standards can evolve with new testing methodologies.
