Our mission
ToyScout loves what toys do: spark joy, teach something new, and turn ordinary moments into play. We help caregivers, gift-givers, and play professionals find toys that matter—safe, fun, and built to last—by testing, comparing, and explaining what works for real kids.
Myth: We’re just another list of popular toys
Fact: We dig deeper. Every feature list and recommendation comes from hands-on testing, interviews with child development professionals, and real-world feedback from families. We evaluate play value, durability, safety, and age-appropriateness, not just trendiness.
What you’ll find here
- Guides: age-based and interest-based buying guides
- Step-by-steps: how to set up toys, build kits, and get the most out of play sessions
- Comparisons: side-by-side breakdowns to choose between similar options
- Explainers: the why behind materials, certifications, and developmental benefits
- Seasonal checklists: holidays, birthdays, and outdoor play recommendations
- Troubleshooting: fixes for common toy hiccups and maintenance tips
Myth: Our content is anonymous and unvetted
Fact: Transparency matters. Every feature article shows a byline and publication date, and we update pieces with an updated timestamp when new information arrives. Contributors include experienced toy testers, educators, pediatric safety consultants, and writers with years of coverage in the toys and child development space.
Editorial standards
- Sources we use: manufacturer specifications, safety standards (for example, ASTM F963 and CPSIA guidance), peer-reviewed child development research, lab test reports, and user reviews.
- Bylines & dates: each article lists the author, reviewer, and a date stamp for initial publication and last update.
- Corrections & updates: when errors are found, we correct promptly and note the change in the article history.
Myth: Our recommendations are influenced by companies
Fact: We operate independently. Editorial decisions are made by our editors and testers. Manufacturers do not control reviews, and we do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage. Sponsored content, when present, is clearly labeled.
Monetization
To keep this work going we use a few revenue models: modest display advertising, affiliate links (we may earn a commission if you buy through them), and transparently labeled sponsored content. Commissions do not affect our testing or rankings.
Myth: This is professional advice for every situation
Fact / Disclaimer: Content on ToyScout is for informational purposes and reflects our testing and experience. It is not a substitute for professional advice. Always follow product manuals, supervise children during play, and consult qualified professionals for specific safety or developmental concerns.
